Acura MDX Winter Performance

Acura MDX Review Philadelphia PA

During the winter months in the Montgomeryville, Lansdale, and Doylestown areas, snow can pile up pretty high. Slippery road conditions can be bad enough for some vehicles, but snow can mean your vehicle serves you best sitting in your garage. However, there are some vehicles that can conquer the snow with no problem, and they’re not limited to huge trucks.

The Acura MDX Winter Performance comes equipped to handle hazardous road conditions— including snow. Learn more about the Acura MDX Winter Performance, and discover if it’s the right crossover for you this winter. Then when you're ready to get behind the wheel, schedule a test drive with us!

Super Handling AWD

If you’re going to be facing serious snow, you should opt for the Super Handling all-wheel drive MDX. This stunning crossover was initially designed to improve handling on dry roads, but drivers have discovered that it carves through snow just as well. The front-wheel drive version will still get you through the snow, albeit with a bit more struggle, but all-wheel drive can offer the grip you need to maintain control.

Typically, the AWD system will transfer power to the front wheels when traversing snowy terrain. However, it was designed to apply power to the wheels with the most traction. The extra weight on the Super Handling models only aid in creating traction.

MDX Wheel Options

Being the contact point between the snow and the rest of the MDX, the wheels play an important role here. Fortunately, the best wheels for the job come standard on the baseline model Acura MDX. While 18-inch wheels may not be as stylish as the 20s from higher trim levels, they cut through snow far more efficiently.

The 18-inch wheels feature narrow treads which are great for carving a path through snow. The 20-inch wheels will get the job done, but the 18s will always be superior in this scenario. Be mindful when choosing your MDX’s trim level as some higher-level models come standard with 20s already.

MDX Sport Hybrid

If you’re an environmentally conscious person and would rather opt for the MDX Hybrid Sport, you can still drive just fine in the snow. It doesn’t have the same all-wheel drive system as the gas powered MDX, but it still features a version of its own.

Mimicking the effects of Super Handling MDX models, the Sport Hybrid features two electric motors that can transfer power to the rear wheels when necessary. This all happens automatically in accordance with changing road conditions, so if the snow-covered road calls for some extra power in the back, the hybrid can easily oblige.
